Q Store ready for the VicJam 2021 gear
The Scout Q Store at Dandenong South has had a lovely quiet, organised, empty feel for the last 8 weeks. Much of equipment stored at the Q Store has been in action at VicJam 2021 held recently in Elmore, Victoria. That is about to change as the Big Event gear and equipment returns from VicJam 2021.
How does the Q Store big event Gear work?
The leaders and youth of Victorian Scouting run and participate in many big events, such as Kangaree, Cuboree, and most recently VicJam. The volumes of equipment required for a big event is phenomenal. Chairs, tables, fencing, marquees, gazebos, eskies, bbq’s, traffic cones, radios, fridges, and even washing machines are just a sample of the gear that a big event requires. Rather than hiring all the necessary equipment, many items are purchased outright and then on-sold or stored for re-hire or re-use by the Scouting Community. The Q Store and it’s flexible, dedicated team, under the affable eye of Trevor Howlett, load, unload, pack, unpack, repair, forklift, stack, load, unload, pack, unpack, forklift, stack and then do it all again. Long before an event starts and long after an event is over, the team, the FoQs plus a few ring-ins do their thing.
What facilities does the Q Store have?
The Q Store is a warehouse with yard and parking. It is located in an Industrial estate in Ordish Road, Dandenong South. It is next door to a concrete supply company and around the corner from a timber mulching yard. Some visitors to the Q Store comment on the dust from the concrete yard when the wind blows from the north west and the sweet smell of rotting mulch in the hot weather. Like all warehouses, it can be really cold in the winter and very toastie in the summer all of which just adds to the ambience for the Q Store team of volunteers. There is also a well equipped kitchen, bathroom and enclosed office.
